Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
