19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
